The wood is cleaned and polished exactly as it would have been at that time. Wax is not often used. The degree of polishing is kept at a level low enough to enable the surfaces to retain their original softness of the different kinds of wood.

As far as the lamps are concerned, these are nearly all electrified while keeping, wherever possible, the lamp-stands, the switches and other original parts. The wooden parts are re-polished, those in metal cleaned and re-chromed. The lampshades rarely reach us in good condition and we, therefore, have to remake them while all the time keeping close to the original style of the period. We usually use various kinds of parchment.
